Updated 17 December 2024The Falketind Alpha90 Insulated Zip Hood is a versatile mid-layer designed primarily for **cold-weather activities like hiking and skiing**, but also suitable for winter running. Its standout feature is the differentiated design, utilizing a combination of Polartec Alpha, Polartec Power Grid, and thin thermal insulation strategically placed for warmth, breathability, and wind resistance. The chest and shoulders offer wind protection, while the back, stomach, and outer arms provide warmth. Breathable Power Grid panels on the sides and inner arms regulate temperature, aided by ventilating hand and chest pockets.\n\nUsers praise its warmth and temperature regulation, finding it comfortable in temperatures around 0°C (32°F) and even slightly colder. The fit is generally described as long in the torso, which is appreciated by some. However, a recurring criticism is the **short and restrictive arm length**, particularly when attempting to use the thumb holes or layer underneath. The fit is also described as more technical than Norrona's usual offerings.\n\nWhile the materials and concept are highly regarded, the execution, particularly regarding arm length and layering ability, has room for improvement.\n\n**Recommended for:** Individuals seeking a warm, breathable, and technical mid-layer for cold-weather aerobic activities like hiking, skiing, and winter running. Be mindful of the potentially restrictive arm length, especially if you plan to layer heavily underneath. Consider sizing up if you prefer a looser fit or require more arm mobility.\n
Perfect for skimo/fast and light ski-touring

Excellent light and breathable mid-layer, that will work as single layer over the underwear for light ski-touring or skimo-training. The Polartec Alpha is by far the most breathable of all synthetic insulations and the light windshield properties of this jacket makes it outstanding for single layer use. The fit is fairly tight, so you might consider a larger size than your usual size if you want the possibility to keep the skins inside the jacket when going down.

Overall a nice piece of clothing. Love the Alpa fleece. Fit is like most of Norrona's pieces, although it feels more technical than normal fit. And the arms are shorter than anything I own from Norrona. Shorter, more narrow and not really flexible due - I think - to the lining. It limits movement of your arms. Hope the designers solve this in the next version.

I bought this a month ago and have never had it off. It’s light, warm, shower proof, ideal as an activity top layer. Black is amazing - warmth in all the right places.
