Updated 19 December 2024The lyngen down850 Knickers are highly praised for providing exceptional warmth in cold conditions, with **skiing (resort and backcountry touring) being the most frequently mentioned activity.** Users appreciate their packability and ability to fit over or under ski pants, making them ideal for cold lift rides, backcountry descents, or simply staying warm during breaks. They are also used for various other winter activities like snowmobiling, winter camping, ice climbing, and even general cold-weather outdoor use.\n\nThe knickers offer a comfortable fit, with adjustable waistbands and full-length side zips allowing for easy on/off over boots and other layers. The 850-fill down provides excellent warmth-to-weight ratio.\n\n**Criticisms:** Durability concerns have been raised regarding the face fabric and zipper, with some users experiencing tears and zipper malfunctions. Also, the 3/4 length, while beneficial for some activities, might not be suitable for everyone. Finally, the lack of a dedicated stuff sack pocket is a minor inconvenience.\n\n**Improvements:** A more robust face fabric and zipper would address durability concerns.\n\n**Recommendation:** The lyngen down850 Knickers are highly recommended for anyone seeking lightweight, packable warmth for skiing and other cold-weather activities, especially those involving periods of inactivity or cold exposure. Despite the durability concerns, the warmth and versatility make them a valuable addition to a winter wardrobe. Be mindful of sizing, especially if layering over thicker pants, and consider the 3/4 length before purchasing.\n
Absolutely nailed it!

As a ski patroller that spends more than my fair share of days on cold/windy chairlifts, these are exactly what I've been looking for. As long as the weather is -5C or colder, they are now mandatory. The full side zips are incredible. Love them and have recommended to a number of friends. I am 5'10", weigh 158 lbs. Bought a size S. 5-10 more pounds and I'd recommend a size M.

Great pair of pants

A great pair of pants that add a surprisingly good amount of warmth despite the modest down weight. Very lightweight, but be mindful of the extremely thin material. I would prefer it to be a little more down in them (if I'm going to carry the cloth & zippers anyway I wouldn't mind carrying some extra down to get a truly warm down pant). Great usability, lightweight, packs down super small. Great pants!

Great Warm Layer!

I bought these knickers about a month ago to use as a warm layer under my bibs when teaching ski lessons when I'm not generating a ton of body heat. So far, they've been great and I've even used them during other outdoor events where I've had to stand in the cold for hours at a time. I was a little worried they would feel bulky underneath my bibs but I don't even think about it once I put them on. I highly recommend them!
