Nikolai Schirmer is a Norwegian freeride skier, filmmaker, and trained lawyer from Tromsø. He is famous for his YouTube videos documenting epic, often local, ski mountaineering and steep-skiing adventures. He focuses on sustainability (e.g., his "Endless Winter" series) and was named European Skier of the Year twice.
About
Niko is a great guy and a fantastic skier. He is always happy and smiling. Niko is also a full media house by himself and has been helping us at Norrøna creating content and films for a long time.
What do you do to reduce your carbon footprint?
I travel less, travel fossil-free when possible, eat less meat, consume less and consume more carbon consciously. On the other hand, I try to have a positive impact with activism pushing for political change.
Who inspire you?
My buddy Vegard Rye was a huge part of me developing a love for skiing. Having an adventure partner down for going into the mountains trying to replicate all the questionable stuff we saw in the ski movies was key to stepping out of the traditional frame of Norwegian skiing.
