Fien van Zwieten is a freeride skier with Dutch roots who grew up in the Sunnmøre region on Norway’s west coast. She started skiing at three years old and later moved from alpine racing into freeride and backcountry skiing.
Where did you grow up?
Stordal, Norway - a small town just outside of Ålesund, located in the heart of Sunnmøre.
Activity
I am a freeskier, although my constantly growing list of hobbies probably won't stop growing hanging out with the Norrøna team. Currently thinking of buying a kayak :)
What do you actively do to cut back on your carbon footprint?
I am a vegetarian, which pretty much means I eat beans three meals a day. I try to travel less, and travel fossil-free if the possibility is there. Conscious consuming, buying and selling second-hand and educating myself as much as possible on the matter.
Where is your favorite place in the world?
Åre, Sweden, on a slushy spring day with my favorite ski bums.
What advice would you give your 10-year-old self?
You are the only one that defines you and your personality. Believing in your own abilities and talents, and trusting that you are fully able to achieve anything you set your mind to. You can't control the environment you find yourself in sometimes, however, you can learn how to accept it and move past it, turn it into something positive. Asking for help is a good thing. Changes happen all the time, it's not that scary. Be patient. Ask your dad for bitcoin for Christmas. Also, your older brother will always beat you at arm wrestling.
What hobbies do you enjoy participating in?
Skiing, rock climbing, running, skating, hiking, painting, surfing, horse-riding, camping, hockey...kayaking?
What is/are your hidden talent(s)?
I make one hell of a show at the karaoke bar. Also, I can cook lime and cilantro into any recipe. It's my favorite
If you could choose a superpower, what would it be and why?
Teleporting. Then I would never have to summit a mountain by skins again, I could just teleport to the top and shred until my legs couldn't any more. Also, I would never have to travel anywhere again, I could teleport to the other side of the world within a few seconds. A dream come true.
