Amie Engerbretson is a professional big mountain skier, producer, and host based in Lake Tahoe. She has been a prominent figure in the ski industry for over a decade.
What do you actively do to cut back on your carbon footprint?
I am a very active climate advocate. I do a lot of work with Protect Our Winters driving to make large-scale systemic changes in our world to address climate change and shift the focus towards the primary drivers of solutions rather than focusing too heavily on individual carbon footprints. I work with community organizations, regional elections, I lobby on capitol hill and I even directed a climate documentary called The Hypocrite this past year.
Where is your favorite place in the world?
My home resort, Palisades Tahoe. I feel most myself there, I know the mountain so well and I will always ski my best there. My community is full of love and support and it is incredible to love coming home even when my job is visiting incredible places all over the planet!
What advice would you give your 10-year-old self?
I would tell her to always be true to herself and trust herself and love herself.
What hobbies do you enjoy participating in?
When I am not skiing I love mountain biking, trail running, cooking, camping, surfing, backpacking, live music, spending time with friends and hanging with my dog Bill.
What is/are your hidden talent(s)?
Folding. I am incredible at folding linens, especially folded sheets.
If you could choose a superpower, what would it be and why?
To speak and understand all languages!
