Børge Ousland is a polar explorer who is widely considered one of the most accomplished explorers of the modern era. He is best known for his record-breaking solo and unsupported expeditions to the Earth's poles.
Where did you grow up?
Nesoddtangen, a peninsula in the Oslo fjord, Norway.
What year did you join the Norrøna family?
The first time I used Norrøna on an expedition was in 1990. But it was in 2005, before the winter trip to the North Pole, I was adopted and officially a part of the Norrøna family.
Was there someone or some event that inspired you to get involved in your sport/activity?
Nansen’s trip across Greenland in 1888 was the reason for me getting into polar adventure. Nansen is my biggest inspiration.
What advice would you give your 10-year-old self?
Start with something you like to do, that has a strong connection with nature.
If you were stranded alone in the wilderness, name 3 things you would want to have with you.
A knife, an axe, matches.
What hobbies do you enjoy participating in?
Free diving, and everything connected with oceans plus general outdoor life and recreation.
What is/are your hidden talent(s)?
I am good at balancing umbrellas on the tip of my nose!
If you could choose a superpower, what would it be and why?
I would like to be a super high-tech genius and work hard to find a world-wide solution for production of sustainable energy - to stop climate change.
