Giuliano Bordoni has spent decades exploring the vertical world, from technical ice to steep ski descents. A member of the Norrøna family for over 15 years, Giuliano lives by a philosophy of speed and efficiency, balanced by a deep, soulful connection to his home valleys and his family.
Where did you grow up?
Grosio (Valtellina), Italy.
Where do you currently call home?
Home is wherever I'm with my wife and my daughter (provided that they aren't in the city).
Activity
Trail running, mountain biking, ski touring, ice climbing, mountaineering.
What year did you join the Norrøna family?
In 2008 or 2009.
What do you actively do to cut back on your carbon footprint?
I reduce all my trips by 90%. I try to use my car less and my e-bike as much as possible for all of the approaches into the mountains, leaving my car at home as much as I can.
Career highlights/accomplishments
All my first ascents on more than 50 new icefall routes, or the hardest icefall I did, or the recent steep skiing descent or the first or second repetition of hard and important steep descents, are nothing compared to taking my daughter to the snow for the first time together.
Was there someone or some event that inspired you to get involved in your sport/activity?
Mark Twight and his book Kiss or Kill.
Favorite place in the world?
Valgrosina, Italy. My home valley. It is romantic, unknown, and wild.
If you were stranded alone in the wilderness, name 3 things you would want to have with you.
A knife, a sleeping bag and chocolate.
If you could have dinner with 3 people (living or deceased) who would they be?
Jesus, an American Indian Chief, but most of all: my sister.
What is/are your hidden talent(s)?
The art of being a butcher.
If you could choose a superpower, what would it be and why?
I would love to have the power to make everyone smile and laugh because everyone needs to feel happy.
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Light, fast and deep.
What is a skill that everyone should master and why?
Humanity.
What advice would you give your 10-year-old self?
Do everything exactly as you will, because if I'm what I am now because of all your mistakes you will make from now to my age. (PS. Don't cry for that woman who will break your heart cause you will find the right one later!!).
