Maggie Voisin is a professional freeskier who's a multiple X Games medalist and Olympian. By 15 years old, she became the youngest American to qualify for a Winter Olympics since 1972.

What activities did you enjoy during your childhood?
I didn’t enjoy traditional team sports during my childhood. I was more drawn to individual sports. As a kid, I aspired to become a professional dirt bike rider or skier. I also figure skated, which I believe helped me develop my air awareness and the ability to spin.

How old were you when you became passionate about freeskiing?
I joined the local freestyle team at my home mountain when I was 10 years old. By the age of 12, I knew I wanted to be a professional skier and compete in the XGames. Remarkably, at 15, that dream became a reality!

What advice would you give to others who want to excel in this activity like you?
Dream big, embrace opportunities, sometimes you have to lean into discomfort, enjoy the journey, and remember that having fun is what matters most.

What tips and advice do you have for minimizing our footprint on the planet?
I believe it’s important to be mindful and conscious of what we consume and buy. I love buying local produce from my town, and I’ve recently gotten into composting and minimizing my household waste. Sometimes it’s the small things that make a big difference.

What book has made the biggest impression on you – and why?
A book that I read a few years ago that still sticks with me is “Braiding Sweetgrass” by Robin Wall Kimmerer. It’s a beautiful blend of Indigenous wisdom, science, gratitude, and reciprocity. The book is hopeful and empowering, encouraging humans to live in harmony with nature and to live more mindfully and sustainably.

Which three songs do you listen to the most?
My top three songs on Spotify in 2024 were:

  • “Wildfires” by SAULT
  • “Someday” by Julia Jacklin
  • “Oh No” by Biig Piig

If you were to create your own life motto, what would it be?
“Why not?” I actually have that tattooed on my left foot. Haha!
