Martina Müller is a Swiss professional skier whose life and career are defined by technical precision, creative freedom, and an extraordinary story of resilience.
Born and raised in the rugged heart of the Alps in Engelberg, Switzerland, she has spent her life mastering the mountains in their most demanding forms.
Activity
In the winter months, I love to ski. It doesn't matter if I’m ski touring, freeriding, or taking the racing skis for a ride on the slopes. I have also started to really enjoy cross-country skiing. During summer I'm doing all kinds of outdoor sports but mostly I'm riding my mountain bike.
What do you actively do to cut back on your carbon footprint?
I try to travel by train instead of car and don’t fly if I don't have to. If I do, I try to stay more than 2 or 3 weeks. I eat almost no meat and try to choose vegetables and fruits which are in season and from the region.
Career Highlights/accomplishments
I was a ski racer back in the days, for which I attended the sports school in Engelberg. My passion for freestyle skiing and freeriding grew bigger than my goal to be a ski racer during the last two years at the sports school. I have since participated in both freestyle and freeride competitions. My biggest career highlights are that I have been able to achieve podium finishes in three different winter sports (alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, and freeriding).
Where is your favorite place in the world?
My favorite place is my hometown Engelberg, but the most beautiful place I've ever been to is the South Island of New Zealand.
What advice would you give your 10- year- old self
Enjoy the moment, be kind to yourself and the people around you. Do what you love, work hard for your dreams and be patient. If it doesn't work out maybe it's not meant to be.
What hobbies do you enjoy participating in?
Climbing, surfing, hiking, playing tennis. There are many more sports I like to do but those are the ones I'm enjoying the most next to skiing and mountain biking.
What is/are your hidden talent(s)
I think one of my biggest talents is my compassion. I am a good listener and care about the atmosphere around me. I work really hard to make sure that the environment I am in feels good.
If you could choose a superpower, what would it be and why?
I would like to have the gift to teleport. So, I could get myself to the places with the best snow conditions in winter to have perfect powder days. And it wouldn't have any impact on the environment.
