Teal Harle is a professional Canadian freestyle skier raised in Campbell River, BC. He is now based in Pemberton, where he is known for a creative and technical style in big-mountain freeriding and backcountry exploration.
How would you describe the nature of the place where you grew up? I grew up in Campbell River, BC. Surrounded by coastal mountains and the Pacific Ocean. A place where you can be fishing in the ocean one moment and hiking up a mountain the next. But don't go far without your rain jacket!
What is your main activity, and why do you love it?
Fishing in the summer and skiing in the winter. Fly fishing is a nice, relaxing environment. I can just enjoy the moment, and every day is a new puzzle to figure out.
Skiing is kind of the opposite. Chasing the adrenaline rush and trying to push my skiing to the next level. Since I have gotten more into backcountry skiing, I've been loving the exploration and the search for the next awesome line to ski!
How old were you when you became passionate about this activity?
I always enjoyed skiing from a very young age, but I didn't start to take it seriously until I was about 16.
What activities did you enjoy during your childhood?
Skiing, fishing, mountain biking, trampoline, soccer, camping
What advice would you give to others who want to excel in this activity like you?
Hard work beats talent every time talent doesn't work hard
What adventures do you dream of undertaking in the future?
I have always dreamt of skiing the big mountains of Alaska.
Do you have a profession alongside your main activity? If so, tell us about it!
I'm lucky enough to have both of my passions as my professions. I spend my winters as a professional skier. And in the summertime, I'm a fly fishing guide. I spend almost every day of my summer exploring the river and searching for the elusive steelhead.
Which Norrøna products are you most excited to try?
I have been loving all of the Lofoten outerwear products. Especially the lofoten Gore-Tex Pro Jacket. And my personal favourite underlayer is the lyngen Down850 knickers. 3/4 length fits well with ski boots and keeps the legs nice and warm!
