  • Ambassador since: 2003
  • Outdoor activities: Skiing, Mountain Biking, Climbing

Achievements:
  • Freeride world tour
  • This year will be my 20th summer season as a fully qualified UIAGM mountain guide.
  • More than 20 years of full-time skiing and climbing year round all over the world.

Wolfgang is the ultimate mountain all-rounder. With over two decades spent as a professional mountaineer, guide, and skier, he combines technical mastery with a deep-rooted respect for the natural world.

From his childhood on the Austrian/Slovenian border to his current home in the high-alpine hub of Chamonix, Wolfgang has dedicated his life to steep lines, vertical ice, and sustainable mountain travel.

Where did you grow up?
Ferlach, on the Austrian/Slovenian border.

What do you actively do to cut back on your carbon footprint?

  • Buy as little as possible - I buy high quality products and use them for a long time. I’d rather repair than throw away. A few holes in clothing adds character and give you a story to tell. For example, I have used my Tamok ski pants for more than 400 days and I still love them.
  • I drive as little as possible. I still travel a fair amount but I very much avoid short travels. If I travel to a place I prefer to stay at least a month, if possible.
  • I avoid food waste of any kind and even though I love meat I see it as a special treat when I eat it.

Was there someone or some event that inspired you to get involved in your sport/activity?
I liked and continue to like to be outside most of my time and I had the chance to fulfill this wish by becoming a mountain guide.

What hobbies do you enjoy participating in?
Skiing, climbing, biking.

What are some some skill that everyone should master and why?
Be kind and forgiving.

What advice would you give your 10-year-old self?
Do what you like the most and you will become good at it.
