The Beginner's Cheat Sheet
Based on Joline Johansson’s expert coaching, here are the essential tips for starting your mountain biking journey:
Technical Skills & Positioning
- The Golden Rule: Always stand up when riding downhill; sitting while descending is "forbidden" because it compromises your balance.
- Body Alignment: Keep the handlebars at the same height as your chest and chin with your elbows pointed slightly outward.
- Suspension Secret: Remember that your body is the biggest suspension system you have—keep your knees slightly bent to absorb impact.
- Weight Distribution: Avoid the common mistake of leaning too far behind the saddle; stay forward enough to keep weight on the front wheel for steering control.
- Braking Technique: Use only one finger on the brake levers so the rest of your hand can maintain a firm grip on the handlebars.
