Norwegian mountain bikers have written a few rules to follow on Norwegian trails. Maybe they are equally useful in all other countries of the world? Here they are. The mountain biker's good advice.

1. Be considerate and pleasant when meeting hikers.

2. Always yield to pedestrians.

3. Control your speed to avoid endangering or hampering others, especially on roads and trails that encourage high speeds and on sections with limited overview.

4. Brake to a walking pace before passing others on a narrow trail.

5. Don’t create new tracks. Get off the bike if you don’t have the ability to overcome an obstacle.

6. Avoid riding especially vulnerable trails after periods of heavy precipitation.

7. Don’t widen a trail by riding around puddles or obstacles.

8. Carry your bike through marshy areas to avoid creating deep tracks.

9. Don’t lock your rear wheel on steep downhills.

10. If two bikes meet on a hill, the one climbing has the right of way.
